Siamese Cat Personality

Cats are generally known to be quite aloof and very independent, but the Siamese cat personality makes this a breed that stands out from the feline crowd. Siamese cats have become well known for being extroverts, and are extremely sociable, loyal, and affectionate.

The Siamese is very much a 'people' cat, and is certainly not the ideal breed for those that decide to have a cat because they want a pet that will not want too much fuss and attention! These cats form a very close and loving bond with their owners, so if you have a Siamese – or you are planning to get one – be prepared to lavish it with lots of attention because this is a breed that will want to be at your side as much as possible.

Why Cat Owners Love Them

If you speak to the owner of a Siamese cat you may come away thinking that you have just had a conversation with one of those 'crazy cat ladies' that most of us have seen on cartoons and on TV.

This is because the chances are that the Siamese cat owner is adamant that his or her cat 'speaks' to them. In fact, this is something that you will hear from a lot of Siamese cat owners. Why? Because the Siamese is a cat that adores talking.

When it comes to talking, Siamese cats are nothing short of chatterboxes. The most vocal of all feline breeds, the Siamese will sit and 'talk' for as long as the owner – or anyone else for that matter – is willing to listen, and before long many Siamese owners find themselves talking back. In fact, the combination of the extrovert, sociable Siamese cat personality and the tendency of these cats to chatter on all day and night makes them come across as more 'human' than any other cat breed, and they quickly become a bona fide member of the family.

Whilst some people like the fact that cats in general are so independent and do not require constant attention like other pets such as dogs, there are many cat owners that want a cat that will bond with them, spend time with them, cuddle up on their laps, and come to them for more than just food – these are the people that will love the personality and nature of Siamese cats.

Differences in Siamese Cat Personality

There is no doubt that all cats know just how to twist their owners around their little fingers – or their little paws in this case – and the Siamese is no different. However, the big difference between the typical pussy cat and the Siamese is the level of loyalty and devotion that owners get from them.

Many cat breeds and mixed breed cats 'tolerate' their owners. This is not to say that they do not have a bond with their owners or do not give them love and affection, but they tend to spend a lot of time on their own, and only really give their owners the time of day when they want food, want to be let in or out, or when they want a cuddle and a fuss.

Siamese cats on the other hand tend to be fiercely devoted to their owners, and these cats can often go to the other extreme in that they follow their owners around at every opportunity, jump on their laps whenever they get the chance, expect to be able to get a space or seat on the bed or settee alongside their owners, and crave attention and fuss.

Other Siamese Cat Personality Traits

There are many facets of the personality of the Siamese cat, and these personality traits tend to be similar across all of the different variations of the breed. As already discussed, these cats are very dedicated, loyal, loving, and affectionate, and they love to have a good natter, whether it's with their owners, other members of the household, other pets, or if necessary with themselves!

However, just because Siamese cats don't tend to wander off for hours or days at a time, and spend a lot of time hanging around the house and their owners, don't be fooled into thinking that they don't have much going on in the brain department.

In fact, the Siamese is amongst the most intelligent of all cat breeds, which could go some way toward explaining why on a chilly winter's evening you will find the typical Siamese snuggled up nice and warm with their owner rather than freezing their paws off outside for no apparent reason other than to wander around with no particular purpose in mind.

Siamese cats are also very inquisitive, active, and energetic, and in many ways the way in which they interact with their owners is more in line with a dog than a cat. Unlike most other cat breeds the personality of the Siamese means that owners can build a real bond and closeness with their pet, which is a luxury that many other cat owners never get to experience.
